Long weekends are the best. And mini getaways over long weekends are even better! First stop: Ottawa. It’s been 10 years since I’ve visited Canada’s capital, so it was great to go back this past weekend. Justine’s sister, Diana and her Culture Shock Toronto dance crew performed their annual showcase in Ottawa, which was the main reason we went out there. The show was AMAZING! So much talent – you can check out their performance from last year here.
We didn’t have dinner plans for our one night in Ottawa, so I sent out a tweet asking where to dine. One of my twitter friends replied, recommending Navarra, Top Chef Canada Season 4 winner Chef Rene Rodriguez’s new restaurant. We took a chance and tried it out. Well worth it! The meal was delicious and the presentation wowed. A fantastic recommendation.
The morning after, we met up with our friend Christina aka Kool Krys for brunch. She recently moved from Toronto back to Ottawa (her hometown). It was so fun catching up and hearing all about Ottawa from a local!
Without wasting any time, we were back on the road and en route to Prince Edward County. Upon arriving, we went straight to Terracello Winery, a picturesque property with an authentic Italian flair. We enjoyed delicious pizza made fresh in a wood burning oven and a special salsiccia schiacciata sandwich, all made right there by owner and winemaker, Tony.
A super cool beet salad at Navarra – yes, that’s dry ice!:

It was very hot and humid that day and if we didn’t already feel like we were in Europe, the flash “sun shower” absolutely confirmed it. Beautiful!
