Mies van der Rohe

One of my favorite buildings, if not my number one favorite building in Toronto is the Mies van der Rohe building on King Street between York and Bay. Known commonly as the TD Centre, the tower, or rather six towers are a striking black painted steel. The contrast against the other downtown buildings is bold, amplified by clean lines and golden tinted windows.

With contrast in mind, I decided to shoot this look in one of the open spaces of the complex. Me, wearing pale neutrals juxtaposed by the dark buildings behind.

This look features a lot of my favorite items currently on rotation. A camel coat has been a winter staple the past few seasons and it continues to remain a fixture in the outerwear department. As you know, I love my aviator sunglasses too. A perennial classic. And got to love ripped jeans. This pair I ripped myself – would you guys be interested in a tutorial post on DIY denim?

In the accessories department, I’m wearing a super soft and incredibly warm blanket scarf from Sentaler. You may recognize the name from my girlfriend Justine’s blog, where she’s worn many of the brand’s gorgeous women’s alpaca coats. Over time, we’ve been fortunate to have become friends with the designer, Bojana and I’ve been trying to convince her to design a men’s coat. However, us men will still have to wait for the time being. (Bojana, if you’re reading this, please make a men’s coat soon!)

Last but not least, I’m sporting my new pair of custom Nike Huarche sneakers! Nike recently brought it’s Custom iD offering to Canada and now all us Canadians can design away to our hearts’ content and ship our customized kicks worry-free. Hurray!

What I’m wearing: Express Coat (similar at ASOS and Brooks Brothers // Sentaler scarf // Topman jeans // Nike iD custom Huarache sneakers // Ray-Ban sunglasses // Danier leather gloves (similar at Land’s End)
