The shearling coat was spotted in many of the menswear runway shows earlier this year and now has made its way into various collections hitting stores for the fall/winter season. Upon first witnessing an updated redesign of the classic shearling coat (I believe it was Coach, whose collection in which I first saw the trend appear – pictured above), I immediately liked what I was seeing. But then summer came and I was distracted by clothes fit for the sun, sand and surf. Fast forward to present and my light appetite for the shearling coat has now turned into a full blown craving to get the look. The shearling coat has become an absolute must-have this season and if you’re still on the hunt for the coat that will get you through the rest of this year and over the winter into 2016, then I’ve found your piece. Practical in its warmth, yet luxurious in its material, the shearling coat is now taking on a fresh, chic look. Redesigned by many brands to give the classic outerwear piece a welcomed update.
For the extravagant shopper, Burberry has created the ultimate shearling in their bonded alligator and shearling aviator jacket. For a casual $120,000, this jacket is yours (and do let me know when you’re done with it, because I’ll gladly take it off your hands). I should note that there is a non-alligator version as well, which falls at a price point much easier to swallow.
Not to worry though- there are many options available for the more modest shoppers looking to make an investment in their winter outerwear. As previously mentioned, Coach is doing all kinds of right this season, offering an updated version of a classic B3 bomber jacket, as well as car coat and track jacket styles. Acne also did a take on a classic Air Force style, while AllSaints has done biker style shearlings in merlot and grey.
I’ve included a few of my top picks below, but if you don’t see one you like, you can find even more on Lyst, where I’ve saved a larger selection great options, and a few cool shearling accessories too! The cool thing about Lyst too, is that you can save items in your profile and Lyst will email you when they go on sale. Super handy for the savvy online shopper.
