“You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”
Violence against women is absolutely unacceptable, yet it shockingly still exists in our society, with countless instances still being reported and even more that go unreported. It’s a tough topic to talk about, but it’s an important one to discuss so that it can be prevented in the future and so we can better help victims recover.
White Ribbon – the world’s largest movement of men and boys working to end violence against women – puts on an annual event, Walk A Mile In Her Shoes to raise awareness around the serious causes, effects and remediations to men’s sexualized violence against women. The event’s goal is to be a playful opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community by literally walking a mile in women’s high-heeled shoes.
This year, Town Shoes is supporting the event and as a Town Shoes Brand Ambassador, I will be participating with the Town Shoes team this Thursday, May 12, 2016 in Toronto. The walk is open to the whole family, not just the men and you can choose to walk in heels or not. The ultimate goal is to raise money and awareness for the cause and the more people standing to end violence against women, the closer we’ll be to achieving a safer, gender equal world!
To prepare for the event, I’ve put together my walk day outfit, which features my Town Shoes “Shoe Lovers” team T-shirt paired with black jeans and a blue denim jacket. I’ll also be walking in my new Converse Chuck II‘s, which just arrived at Town Shoes this month!
If you’re in Toronto, join me in supporting the cause, by signing up here. If you’re unable to participate, but would like to sponsor my walk, please donate here.
Walk A Mile In Her Shoes will be happening at 12 noon this Thursday, May 12, 2016, starting in Yonge-Dundas Square.
