The Dali Museum

If you’ve been following along on instagram, you’ll know that Justine and I have been on what has become an annual family trip to Siesta Key, Florida. When we first came last year, we fell in love with the white sand beach and clear, warm waters, as well as the surprising abundance of cultural experiences. Having visited The Ringling last year, this time around we wanted to check out The Dali Museum.

Located in St. Petersburg, Florida (a short drive North from Sarasota or South from Tampa), The Dali Museum is home to the second largest collection of Salvador Dali’s work. The building itself is also as fascinating as the art inside, featuring a “Glass Enigma” that tops the Museum from indoors and a helix-like concrete spiral staircase. The glass portion of the building is made up of 900 uniquely different triangles and extends from floor-to-ceiling (pictured below).

The Dali Museum had a large number of Dali’s early works, as well as a few of his more famous pieces. When we went the other day, we also had the treat of seeing the current exhibition of “Dali & Da Vinci: Minds, Machines & Masterpieces”, which showcased how both artists used art to explore the whole of the human experience. All very interesting. I definitely recommend this museum if you’re ever in the area!

It’s been very hot and humid here in South Florida, so coming up with outfits has been pretty simple to say the least- like, how can I have the least amount of fabric touching my skin, while still looking decent? Ha! Short sleeves, shorts and sandals all day everyday. I wish I had something with triangles to wear to The Dali Museum, but alas I do not, so navy stripes on white were the closest to geometric thing that I could find in my suitcase. I opted for silver accessories to keep things on the cooler-toned side. Typically, I gravitate towards gold accessories in the summer, but this season, I’ve been favoring silver and I’m not sure why. What do you prefer: silver or gold?

I am SO bummed that I couldn’t fit in a visit to the museum when I was in this area of Florida last, sounds like I’ve gotta make another trip back down to check it out!
