Montreal for National Bank’s Alt Court

Last week, I dropped in on Montreal for one night only, with National Bank and eleven other Toronto-based bloggers and friends. We flew into the city for National Bank’s Alt Court event – a kick-off celebration for the upcoming Rogers Cup tennis tournaments. National Bank has been a sponsor of the Rogers Cup for the past 10 years and this year, the bank created a brand new experience through Alt Court, to showcase its involvement in the tennis world.

Upon arrival in Montreal, we took a walk through Old Montreal and stopped for a bite to eat at Boris Bistro. I ate at this restaurant during a trip to Montreal last summer and I absolutely loved the food, not to mention their beautiful outdoor courtyard. It left a lasting impression on me last year and it was hit with my friends this time too.

Following our early dinner, we headed back to our hotel to change and get ready for the Alt Court event.

Short for “alternate court”, Alt Court was all about celebrating the sport of tennis, while embodying contrasting elements one would never find on the court. There were amazing art installations and live performances at the event, as well as a number of activities all happening simultaneously, including a giant ball pit and 10-person table tennis.

My favorite installation was the light beam piece, which was featured right at the centre of the event piece. Timed with the music, the piece flickered and changed color to match the beat of the music all night long. Check it out in action below:
