Photo Diary: Prince Edward County, Part II

Continuing where I left off at the end of my previous post, here’s part 2 of my visit to Prince Edward County!

“The County”, as the locals call it, is full of fun things to do in the summer. On our second day there, we started out in Picton. It’s quite a small town with quaint little shops along its main stretch. For lunch, we headed down to Wellington (another small town a few minutes away) and parked ourselves at Norman Hardie‘s winery for possibly the best wood oven pizza ever. It was so good that we went back for lunch the day after too, later learning that the pizza cook came from the kitchen of Terroni – which explains so much. But seriously, I’d drive out for the day just to have that pizza again!

Anyway, that afternoon we got a sneak peek of the new Drake Devonshire Inn. It’s still in construction, slated to open later this summer/ early fall and when it does, it’s going to shake things up! The property and the rooms look beautiful and knowing how things are at the Drake Hotel in Toronto, the Drake Devonshire Inn will be a county attraction of it own.

Later, we went down to Sandbanks Provincial Park to get a little beach time in and check out the sand dunes. It’s a lovely, natural phenomenon on the lake (which by the way was actually warm). It almost felt like I was back in Florida!

For dinner, we drove up to The Inn at Lake on the Mountain. It’s a really fascinating area of The County, because as you drive up, you have Lake on the Mountain on one side, but then a view over a cliff down to the Bay of Quinte on the other side. There are many interesting stories and theories of how the lake was created, its depth and where it’s sourced from and drains. Google it to learn more, or better yet go visit! Really really cool.

On our last day in The County, we explored more of the towns and cute stores, as well as returned to a few of our favorite vineyards and check out Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Co. A perfect stop for some fresh ginger rhubarb ice cream and delicious goat cheeses!
