Tommy Hilfiger Men’s Fall 2016

tommy-hilfiger-fall-2016-mens-Group Model Shot

Tommy Hilfiger has been doing all kinds of right with his women’s collections these past few seasons and for fall 2016, his men’s collection has gotten a big update. A refreshing take on classic Tommy style, the fall 2016 men’s Hilfiger Edition collection is everything we loved about the brand’s 30-year history, reimagined for the modern man.

The wide-leg trousers are a fresh silhouette for menswear right now and I’m really into the mix of proportions explored in Tommy’s collection. Pajama shirts and pants are remixed for the street and even layered into suiting. The outerwear offering is very strong too, with elevated classics, like a military-inspired, navy wool coat, duffle coat and shearling biker jacket.

A few of my favorite looks below, as well as a little video of Tommy Hilfiger himself, sharing the inspiration behind his collection:

Public School NYC Fall 2016

public school fall 2016

Public School NYC showed their fall 2016 men’s collection at New York Men’s Fashion Week today. Already one of the hottest shows in town, the brand took things up a notch and opened up their show to their fans and followers by sending their models outside past the windowed backstage area and around the block before entering the official space and runway back indoors. It was an unusual move, giving their outdoor observers the first look at the collection, before the runway show guests.

The collection is the perfect fusion of Western, streetwear and athletic influences. I especially liked the tassel fringed hats and the abstracted camouflage print.

I’ve selected my top 10 favorite looks to share with you below – which one is your favorite??

Uri Minkoff Fall 2016

New York Men’s Fashion Week (#NYFWM) is underway and while I’m regretfully not there to report on the action first-hand, I thought I’d share some of my favorite collections with you here on my blog. A teaser for the fall 2016 season and a taste of the sartorial excitement that we gents can look ahead towards.

First up: Uri Minkoff. Brother to Rebecca Minkoff and CEO of the Rebecca Minkoff company, Uri Minkoff launched his namesake brand with bags shoes and accessories. And now this season, he’s expanded the line to include clothing! The collection is simple and concise. The outerwear is a strong point, highlighted by a fur-lined winter coat. Cropped pants and clean lines are present throughout the collection and many of the bags have a unisex appeal. Definitely looks like there will be some cross-closet sharing/borrowing/stealing happening between the boys and the girls over these bags!

Take a look at the collection below and let me know what you think!

Winter Denim

alexander liang

There’s no denying I love a good denim on denim look. Maybe because I am Canadian, but I always feel comfortable in a “Canadian tuxedo”. I just love denim! Someone recently sent me a message on Instagram complementing me on how I look in denim and that he’d like to see how I would incorporate a denim jacket in a layered winter look. I was (and still am) very flattered by the feedback and I decided to put together this outfit in response to the request!

Of course, it’s too cold out to be rocking a denim jacket your sole piece of outerwear. However, layered under a wool overcoat, you’ve got a fresh, layered look. Going that extra mile, as I usually like to do with style, I paired a denim jacket with jeans AND a denim shirt. Three different shades of indigo – don’t be afraid to try it!

I kept the palette cool with a grey wool coat and silver mirrored aviators. Finishing off the look with brown leather, military-style boots.

What I’m wearing: Topman Coat // Guess denim jacket // Guess denim shirt // Distressed jeans (similar at River Island and H&M) // Palladium boots // Ray-Ban sunglasses

Mies van der Rohe

mens style blogger

One of my favorite buildings, if not my number one favorite building in Toronto is the Mies van der Rohe building on King Street between York and Bay. Known commonly as the TD Centre, the tower, or rather six towers are a striking black painted steel. The contrast against the other downtown buildings is bold, amplified by clean lines and golden tinted windows.

With contrast in mind, I decided to shoot this look in one of the open spaces of the complex. Me, wearing pale neutrals juxtaposed by the dark buildings behind.

This look features a lot of my favorite items currently on rotation. A camel coat has been a winter staple the past few seasons and it continues to remain a fixture in the outerwear department. As you know, I love my aviator sunglasses too. A perennial classic. And got to love ripped jeans. This pair I ripped myself – would you guys be interested in a tutorial post on DIY denim?

In the accessories department, I’m wearing a super soft and incredibly warm blanket scarf from Sentaler. You may recognize the name from my girlfriend Justine’s blog, where she’s worn many of the brand’s gorgeous women’s alpaca coats. Over time, we’ve been fortunate to have become friends with the designer, Bojana and I’ve been trying to convince her to design a men’s coat. However, us men will still have to wait for the time being. (Bojana, if you’re reading this, please make a men’s coat soon!)

Last but not least, I’m sporting my new pair of custom Nike Huarche sneakers! Nike recently brought it’s Custom iD offering to Canada and now all us Canadians can design away to our hearts’ content and ship our customized kicks worry-free. Hurray!

Winterproofed in KRANE

mens style blogger

Whew! We narrowly escaped the blizzard from the Jonas storm this past weekend here in Toronto. No snow on the streets for us… for now. Thank goodness! However, Justine and I still took the opportunity to stay warm and toasty inside cooking, baking and watching Netflix. After all, that’s what winter is for, isn’t it?

Anyway, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t reaching for my parka most days, with the temperatures hovering below freezing. However, I’ve also been staying warm in this more sophisticated outerwear option by KRANE. You might recognize it from when I wore it during Toronto Fashion Week. The coat’s waxed cotton exterior and thick quilted lining block the wind to keep me warm and it’s almost too hot on the milder days. The shearling collar is also luxe, while adding an extra layer of warmth around the neck and shoulders.

What I’m wearing: KRANE Design coat // Topman sweatshirt // J.Crew shirt // Express biker jeans // Lacoste boots // TOMS sunglasses

Inspiration: Ralph Lauren Purple Label Men’s Fall 2016

ralph lauren purple label mens fall 2016

It’s been a week since Ralph Lauren presented his fall 2016 Purple Label men’s collection in Milan and I’m still thinking about the collection with absolute awe. Divided into 5 mini-stories, the collection is a perfect inspiration to look forward too in the later half of 2016. My personal favorite was the Western grouping, front and center of the presentation. Fringed suede jacket and shearling trench are naturally covetable, not to mention the fur coat modeled by Lucky Blue Smith. My absolute must-have piece from the collection however, is the cowhide trucker jacket worn by River Viiperi. It is luxurious and undeniably unique. (Close up photo below)

A Return to Fort Langley

alexander liang

While in Vancouver for the holidays, I took a day trip out to Fort Langley with Justine, my brother, Eric and our longtime family friend, Erin. Eric has been into photography for a long time – way longer than me and he’s even been behind the lens of many of my outfit shoots in the early days of this blog! Erin is also a natural photographer, specializing in children’s portraiture.

We did a little photo walk a year ago in Fort Langley and it was so much fun that we decided to go again. We captured a few of the same spots in a new light, as well as some new locations in the quaint town.

I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite shots from all of our cameras below. Take a scroll and I hope you enjoy!

CHI for Men at Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver

CHI the Spa Shangri-La Vancouver

During my recent trip to Vancouver, Justine and I took a day off to treat ourselves to a day of rest and relaxation at our favorite spa, CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver. It is the perfect mix of East meets West in decor, treatments and products. After the first time we experienced their Sea Therapy Treatment, we were completely hooked!

This time around, I opted to try the spa’s new CHI for Men offering. I started with the CHI Stress Remover, which was the perfect treatment to alleviate the muscle tension build up from all of my traveling, computer work and iPhone use. I don’t know about you, but I also find myself walking around with my shoulders up tight around my neck a lot when it’s cold outside during the winter. A cause of too many chronic tension headaches.

The treatment begins with a foot soaking and tea service, followed by a private eucalyptus steam. One thing that makes CHI, The Spa so luxurious is that each treatment room has its own private changing area, shower and steam room.

After about 15 minutes in the eucalyptus steam room, I made my way over the the massage table, where I enjoyed a customized massage — I requested to focus on the hands, arms, neck, and head. The massage was just over an hour long, which was plenty of time to fully relax and allowed my therapist to work through each muscle equally.

To finish off my spa day, I had a men’s manicure to clean up and repair my hands from the dryness and damage of winter, while sipping a fresh green juice made in-house.

What I loved most about the CHI Stress Remover treatment was that it was very customized to me. Whether you’re experiencing pain and/or tension from computer work or physical fitness, I would highly recommend this treatment. It’s a nice way to treat yourself for all of your hard work and also makes a wonderful gift of relaxation for the guy who needs it.

You can request an appointment here. CHI, The Spa is located on the 5th floor of the Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver and is open everyday from 9am – 9pm. Phone: (1 604) 695 2447

Winter On The Pier

mens winter style

Happy New Year!! Can you believe it’s already 2016?! It’s hard to believe that another year has flown by.

Justine and I are currently out West, where we celebrated New Year’s Eve with family and friends in Vancouver. Even though I’m now a proud resident of the East Coast, it still feels good to be back on the West Coast. The last couple times we’ve been back to visit, we’ve shot at this pier at Crescent Beach, near my family’s home. It’s a smaller pier than the one at the busier, nearby White Rock Beach, but I find it more peaceful and a bit of a locals-only spot. But now you all know too, haha.

A couple of winters have gone by that I’ve wanted a good black wool coat, but haven’t found one that I love. This year, I found one from Superdry and I finally feel like my winter coat roster is complete! … for now. I’m a big fan of military styling and this coat has all the features I always love: a tall collar, double-breasted buttons and shoulder epaulettes, just to name a few. Paired with ripped black jeans, chukka boots, denim shirt and a new sweater Justine’s mom got me for Christmas, and the look is complete!

See the full photo set and shop the outfit below!

Travel Diary: Riviera Nayarit, Mexico

alexanderkenton travel blogger

Just before the holidays, Justine and I jetted off to Riviera Nayarit, Mexico, for one last trip this year. I’ve been to Mexico a few times, but in recent years, I’ve only been to the Gulf side in Riviera Maya, so it was exciting to check out a different region on the Pacific coast.

Taking a non-stop flight from Toronto on Air Canada (available every Saturday), we landed in Puerto Vallarta, where we met our driver to take us 40 minutes Northwest to our home away from home: The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort. Located at the tip of Punta Mita, the St. Regis boasts a sprawling beachfront property, luxurious villa suites and Remède Spa. Not to mention their signature St. Regis Butler Service, which ensures your utmost comfort throughout your stay. From the moment you check in, your personal butler is there to greet you and help you with anything you wish – no request is too small or unattainable no matter what the hour of the day.

Our room was located close to the pool and beach, and had a king size bed, reading area, desk workspace and walk-in closet. The bathroom was large and spacious, with his and hers sinks, shower and tub, and french doors that opened up to a private outdoor shower. Paradise found!

We woke up bright and early on our first morning to do some yoga by the beach. It was so peaceful and serene in the morning, perfect to find our zen and begin to ease into relaxation mode.

Following our private yoga session, we refueled with a delicious breakfast at the hotel’s Sea Breeze restaurant.

In the afternoon, we visited the Remède Spa for couples massage treatments. The spa experience was so relaxing and rejuvenating. The therapists were excellent and the products they used were luxurious and refreshing. After the spa, the beach was calling and we headed to find prime seats and order lunch.

When in Mexico, guacamole is of course a must! We also ordered mahi mahi ceviche and the best shrimp tacos ever from the Mita Mary Bistro Boat – like a food truck, but a food boat! Right on the beach.

After a day in the sun, the outdoor shower in our room had to be tried.

For dinner, Justine and I went back down to the Mita Mary Bistro Boat to dine beneath the stars. Hanging lights, candles and a fire pit lit up the beach, while mariachi band played live music with the soothing sounds of waves accompanying in the background. It was so romantic! A perfect end to our first day in paradise.

Apart from the obvious beauty of the beach and warm sunshine, there are tons of activities to do in Riviera Nayarit too. Justine and I did a couple of really cool excursions with Punta Mita Adventures. The first of which was a luxury sailing and snorkeling day around the Marieta Islands. The crew was so friendly and welcoming on board the boat, which made for a really enjoyable day at sea. We even got to sail by wind only for half of the time!

When in the tropics… I couldn’t get enough of the fresh coconuts at St. Regis Punta Mita! I literally drank one everyday and the best part was that when finished, the waiter would take the coconut from me, cut it up, scoop out the coconut meat and return it on a plate. Talk about luxury! It’s the little details like that, which truly set this resort a cut above the rest.

The St Regis Punta Mita has three infinity pools, all with the perfect vantage point to catch the sunsets each evening.

The second excursion we did with Punta Mita Adventures was a road trip – or should I say OFF-road trip – into Sayulita. Everyone I told that I was going to Riviera Nayarit said that Sayulita was the place to see.

Starting in Punta Mita, we joined a small group of other vacationers for the off-roading UTV drive. Within the first five minutes of the drive, we were already completely covered in mud! Speeding through the trails and up a mountain, we navigated trees, bushes, potholes, mud puddles and even a cow that leaped across right in front of us. It was so fun!!

Here’s the view from the top. You can see Punta Mita in the distance!

After taking in the mountain view, we drove back down and into the town of Sayulita.

Sayulita is a small beach town, famous for its surfing, shopping and cool, hippy-chic vibe. Most of the roads remain unpaved, with vibrant colorful buildings and scenes every which way you turn. There were tons of cute little shops and artisan studios, with unique fashion and home items. I loved that the culture of Sayulita hasn’t been lost to commercial tourism and that the vibe of the town still maintains an authentic vibe.

Being the sun lovers we are, Justine and I spent as much time as possible at the beach. Riviera Nayarit has many beautiful beaches and even in late December, the weather is perfect. There aren’t a lot of destinations where you can find guaranteed sun and heat at any time of year, but Mexico is one of the few!

Here’s a look at the Mita Mary Bistro Boat from afar:

Mexico’s Pacific Coast proved to be quite an amazing place. Riviera Nayarit has so much to offer, with exciting adventures, vibrant culture and picture perfect landscapes. The St. Regis Punta Mita exceeded our expectations with flying colors. A truly luxurious resort experience — one that we will remember throughout all of our future travels.

A big THANK YOU to Mexico Tourism for hosting Justine and I in Riviera Nayarit!! It was truly a trip of a lifetime and we are already planning our return!

A Chat with AXE Selfmaker Tomas Romita

tomas romita

What does being a #Selfmaker” mean to you?

In a world of tech startups, social media and endless opportunity, I’m witnessing more and more people leaving the conventional career path for the adventure of entrepreneurship. It’s a big risk for sure, but with passion and perseverance, the rewards are priceless.

As an entrepreneur myself, I can’t imagine doing anything different. I’ve always aimed to be my own boss and pave my own path. However, that’s not the case for everyone and a lot of my friends and people I’ve met in business started out working a 9-5 job, before realizing they wanted to take the plunge and going out on their own.

Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of connecting with many like-minded business people and hearing each of their stories is so inspiring. I recently visited my friend Tomas Romita, founder of MADE Clothing Co., to chat about entrepreneurship and his latest involvement in the AXE Selfmaker campaign.

bespoke menswear

Tomas is one of three real life, Canadian, self-made men, featured in the AXE Selfmaker campaign. Highlighting the grit, determination and “fuck it” moments that it took for each selfmaker to get to where they are today, this campaign is the beginning of the next chapter for AXE. A bold new direction – something all selfmakers know well about.

I thought the AXE Selfmaker campaign was a great fit. People love to hear stories about business and it gives the opportunity to dip their foot in the water. Some end up diving in and perhaps this campaign could be what gives them that final push,” Tomas told me.

Another thing Tomas found was that the AXE Selfmaker campaign offered an authentic platform to share his story. “Response has been amazing. A lot of people have reached out with questions or similar stories,” he said. “and the timing is right in 2015 to be an entrepreneur.

Many of MADE Clothing Co.’s clients are selfmakers too, so in the spirit of the holiday season, I wanted to find out more about what’s trending in the suiting world.

Menswear is reaching the sophomore stage. Men are bolder and statement style is becoming more mainstream,” Tomas shared. “For example, bright blue is selling out. It can still be considered a navy, but reinterpreted for the modern, confident man. Burgundy is also a great color for the holiday season and has been popular for weddings. As we move through the winter and into 2016, purple will likely start showing up more too.

mens blue suit velvet bowtie

Other trends that have been emerging this season are: tuxedo lapels, u-shaped vests and velvet. Stretch fabrics are a popular innovation, allowing for more flexibility and functional style.

Beyond the trends, MADE is about finding the right fit for each person. Tailoring clothes that are lasting and create unique individuality. And I think that’s what being a selfmaker is all about – being bold, confident and making your own mark.

Art Basel Miami through the Persol Lens

alexanderkenton yacht

This past weekend, I got to experience my first Art Basel in Miami with Persol. Despite the atypical rainy weather in Miami, it was a fantastic few days of art, food and fun! Our Persol blogger crew made ourselves at home at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, right on South Beach. It was a great location to get to all of the festivities and Justine‘s and my room had a beautiful view out onto the beach.

We had the first afternoon free, so we took a walk around the hotel property and got ourselves acquainted with the pool and beach area.

On our first night in Miami, we dined at Mr. Chow. It’s definitely a hotspot in town, as we dined amongst some recognizable faces, like Lenny Kravitz, Eva Longoria, Ricky Martin and Katie Holmes. After dinner, we made our way to LIV at the Fontainebleau, where we danced the night away.

After our day on the water, we cleaned up and went to the convention center to check out Art Basel. It was a huge exhibition, with so many cool pieces to see. There was art from galleries all over the world on display.

After a couple hours of walking through Art Basel, we went for a delicious dinner at Prime One Twelve. I had heard a lot about this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The food and service were excellent! I had a tuna tartare, followed by steak. For dessert, we shared cheesecake, key lime pie and gelato.

On our last day in Miami, the sun finally made a partial appearance. I spent the afternoon out at the beach with a few friends from our group and it was a perfect way to end the weekend.
